  • The update features enhancements to the Background Movie Player to improve stability across all platforms, including user-defined background movie players on Mac OS X

  • New and updated actors

Note: Isadora 2.5.2 is a maintenance release that improves stability and performance. We strongly suggest you read the release notes for v2.5 if you have note done so already.

MAJOR STABILITY IMPROVEMENTS ON MAC AND WINDOWS

Isadora 2.5.2 has an altered method for determining your system’s IP address at startup which should prevent delays when launching Isadora, notably when running Isadora on Mac OS X Sierra alongside applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud.

The update also addresses several issues which caused a significant performance degradation on Sierra, including major slowdowns when scrolling and zooming within the Scene Editor on Mac OS X Sierra.

BEWARE OF SLOWDOWNS WITH ADOBE CREATIVE CLOUD + OTHER THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE

Many users of Adobe Creative Cloud of Adobe Creative Cloud have reported system wide slowdowns. See this knowledge base article to see if Adobe CC or some other third-party software might be affecting Isadora's performance.

KNOWN ISSUE: SCREEN "SMEARING" FOR SOME MAC OS USERS

A small number of users have experienced an issue where Isadora’s user interface does not draw properly. We proven that some third-party software is causing this, since booting those computers from a fresh install of Mac OS Sierra, but have not yet determined which software it is.  For the latest news on this topic, and an example of what it looks like, jump to this item in our forum.

BACKGROUND MOVIE PLAYER REVISION

Isadora 2.5.2 resolves a major issue with the background movie players which could cause Isadora to crash suddenly on Windows and Mac OS X.

NEW OS X FEATURE: USER-DEFINED BACKGROUND MOVIE PLAYERS

Isadora users on Mac OS X can now specify the number of background movie players:

(Access feature at Isadora > Preferences > Video > Background Movie Players)

This feature allows you to define the number of additional movie players running in the background for added stability, but requires additional system resources. By default, Isadora runs four of each type in the background. Increasing the number of background players may improve stability, but requires additional system resources. Most users are strongly advised to leave these settings to the default, but high-level users will enjoy the flexibility and added stability offered by this new feature.

NEW AND IMPROVED ACTORS

Javascript Actor: The actor now only executes once upon entering scene, and now properly allows you to use trigger inputs.

ADDITIONAL BUG FIXES

  • When opening a file saved in an older file format, you are not only warned that the file format will be updated not only when you open the file but also when you save it.

  • Control Panel Editor Bug: Button Text Doesn't Show. (#4499355)

  • Isadora 2.5.3b1 error when importing media via drag-and drop. (#4498771)

  • Clicking a video in the media bin, can refresh the video in the movie player. (#4498055)

  • Get Global Values, outputs don’t work if connected to ranges like the ‘channel’ input of Control Watcher actor. (#4498860)

  • Text edit fields in the Control Panel would sometimes get displaced on redraw/update. (#4499318)

  • Ease In-Out 2D, if multiple copies are running, the ending of one cause others to end.

  • Unable to register USB version on Mac because users couldn’t couldn’t paste to registration dialog. (#4498449)

  • Can’t turn off spacebar as the “Go” trigger. (#4498600)

  • Fragment shaders stored in the “GLSL Plugins” folder can now use ‘.txt’ as an extension. However, using ‘.frag’ for fragment shaders and ‘.vert’ for vertex shaders is strongly recommended.

  • Net Broadcaster Actor: This actor now accepts only numeric and text inputs. Previously, video inputs were allowed but didn’t work because broadcasting video was never intended to be part of the Net Broadcaster’s functionality.

  • The Video Picker Control has been marked as deprecated, and so it no longer appears in the Control Panel toolbox by default; you should use the superior “Bin Picker” actor instead. Old patches using the Video Picker actor will still show the actor and function as they did before. (You can see this actor in the toolbox again by turning on the “Hide Deprecated (Classic) Plugins from the Toolbox at Isadora > Preferences > General > User Interface. (#4499442)

  • When choosing Controls > Control Specific Options… for a Video Picker, the dialog now correctly displays the buttons at the bottom of the dialog on Windows computers. (#4499442)
